Mistakes to avoid in a Business Intelligence Project

Business Intelligence tools have now become an inseparable part of companies. The expectations are that they will help them achieve success and win the competitive race. However, at times things spiral out of control and the effects are reversed. Instead of efficient work and great results, the BI solution starts to fail. This creates a lot of confusion and frustration amongst the concerned team members and other employees. There are some mistakes that the companies tend to commit over time repeatedly in their respective BI projects. Taking insights and learning from them, we have jotted down three major mistakes that every company should avoid when they go ahead with QlikView implementation.

1)      Not defining the business goals properly

This has been the first and foremost mistake that companies have made time and again. This comes as a surprise since if the goals are not defined clearly; there is no way that the implementation stage should be considered even. Initially, the focus should be on just ensuring that the goals are clear and then the steps should be executed so that the goals are delivered properly.

2)      Not having a competent team

Having the best of technology or software solutions falls flat if the team using that is not skilful. When QlikView services are not used to its true potential, then putting the blame on the software instead of the people is useless. Ensure that the team is trained properly before they can use the services. But before that identifying people with the right skill-set is really important. When the skills of the concerned people match with that of the implemented software, the chances of anything going wrong are slim.

3)      Not involving the stakeholders from the beginning of the project

This might sound like something that wouldn’t matter; well, it does. Stakeholders should be involved when the initial requirements are defined; they need to be present to clarify any questions that arise at any stage of the project, test the results of QlikView services, if any changes need to be made in the management, its activities and the training programs. They have a significant role before the project starts, during the execution and once the solution goes live, so better involve them at all the stages.
